When a linux kernel loads it outputs a lot of stuff
I tried arch and gentoo on my laptop. In both of them there are places where the loading of the kernel kinda freezes for a few seconds
I remember 2 freezes of about 3 - 5 in different kernel versions. They happen when it loads the pc card (yenta) driver and the touchpad (synaptics)
What causes this ?
How to overcome this ?
In the said kernels (2.6.21 and 2.6.24) everything is compiled inside and not as modules

device detection/initialization maybe?

Thx
I think to overcome this by modprobing stuff later instead of building it inside the kernel
Any other suggestions ?
(I'd like to minimize the init script time and X loading time too)

If the hard drive is going like the clappers at the time, then it's just the CPU waiting for data from the hard drive.
