Xen ?

Hi,

Would anyone be interested in Adding Xen to Arch?

I would like to give Xen another go ...

Would users like to see it part of mainline kernel ? or Archck or maybe a custom version

Currently I run vmplayer which is a easy to set up but may not be as quick as Xen (but much faster than qemu!)

Thoughts (clean please!!!)

Re: Xen ?

I know xterminus was having a hard time getting arch to work with Xen, I don't think he ever did...

Are you saying package Xen for arch, or get arch working with Xen?

Re: Xen ?

According to their site, Xen only runs on a kernel that is specifically patched for it.
Since archck already has several patches, that one seems like agood point to start.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: Xen ?

Well Cactus dude had it working, I had it boot then nothing ....

but I don't think it was packaged as such ...

The article I have assumes your using Fedora FC4/5 (yuk!) ... If its so great why not get it running in Arch

Most if not all deps are covered repros/AUR sooo

Downside is that it uses grub .... compiling custom kernels for each etc..

thing is if I am right it uses images of hard drives not unlike vmplayer which to me is a little easier to use but not perfect.... have had Arch running under it no problem although I think you are limited on the graph front

For testing kernels packages etc its fine

Soo More to the point are there any advantages to using Xen ?
