[SOLVED]defect ATX power supply?

Hi,

got a new Fortron Source Power Supply here that worked for 2 days without problems but now the machine fans just start up and immediately spin down. (Mainboard Asus CUSL2)
On a GA-P35-DS3 the cpu fan starts after some seconds at full speed, which is not normal because the fan is controlled by the bios and usually needs at least 10m before it begins to run slow.

Ive checked the voltages on the atx connector and they are all good, ive even checked all GND pins.
If i short circuit the green and a black pin the power supply starts and a fan connected to +12V and GND runs without problems.

Whats going on here?

Re: [SOLVED]defect ATX power supply?

The Zen300 needs a minimal load (1A) on both 12v rails, so on the p35 one 12v rail was used by the cpu but the other was unused (harddrive should fix the problem)
The other mainboard i used for testing was older and without the p4 connector, so again it shut down.

Re: [SOLVED]defect ATX power supply?

Seems like the motherboard is not correctly distributing power to the fans and anything else pluggined into aux ports. If jump starting the powersupply let the fans work, but once the motherboard had to do it, made the fans fail, then it makes sense that the motherboard is full of fail. Are you sure you connected that 4-pin molex connector into the motherboard (there's usually a molex connector into the motherboard that powers the fans that are plugged into it.)

However if the fans you have are not plugged into the motherboard and are not drawing power from the power supply through the motherboard, there is no reason it shouldn't work.  Really weird. The fans even fail when tested on another motherboard?

Try a third motherboard maybe, if the fans all don't start with that psu, then that psu is prolly a fail.
