A Way To Speed Up Downloads?

In winbloze, tools like FreeDownloadManager make simultaneous connections to the server and are able to connect to different servers at the same time for the same file in order to speed up downloading.

Is there a way to do this in Linux? I don't mind using the terminal. Is there a way to create multiple connections to the same server in order to speed up downloads?

The closest thing to FreeDownloadManager that I have found is d4x. It can do multiple connections to the same server though this seams kind of pointless unless the server limits the bandwidth per connection.

Awwww, sorry. Yea, you're right, I must be tired or something. The thread was not *totally* pointless, since it mentions aria2 - which is the program that might be of some interest to you.

Have you tried DownThemAll! ??

It's a Firefox extension that works very well and it is very fast too !

Try axel - it rocks (though you have the same problem if a server refuses multiple connections).
I can, however, attest to its supernaturally fast downloadability.
