Hi guys,
Ive just replaced alsa with oss4 and the sound quality is alot better, especially in counterstrike
But im running xfce and have the xfce volume control on my panel, however it no longer detects any sound devices
It used to work fine with alsa
Running xfce4-mixer from the terminal i get this error
alsa: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory
anybody know what might be causing this?
Im guessing its something to do with a configuration somewhere, but i cant seem to find anything
Thanks

Hi, edit the PKGBUILD, enable oss and recompile xfce4-mixer, it works perfect.

It does not work for me: I have recompiles with --with-sound=oss, but it does not see my card (which works really fine with oss). Perhaps I should change device: isn't /dev/mixer or /dev/mixer0 the right ones?

Thanks depp ive got it working

When i first started it up, i couldnt find any devices either and i was getting this error in the terminal
** (xfce4-mixer:4733): CRITICAL **: vc_get_volume: assertion `mixer_handle != -1' failed
But then i started it as root, and it seemed to pick it up (using /dev/mixer i think)
and i can now start it as a normal user too and it works :S ... which seems a little strange lol.
Maybe doing that ^ might help?

Edit: Is there any reason for not using OSS4? ive been used to alsa for a long time, but after trying this is seems much better.
