I haven't tried gnash in a while, and when I did a while ago it was essentially unusable... Swfdec, howerver, is a pretty viable alternative to flash at this stage -- it doesn't play all videos, but it plays the main ones (youtube, google, etc.) and does it well.

I have to say, swfdec is way superior to gnash. i tried both, and swfdec is a lot more stable and doesn't eat up resources (can't even compare to nspluginwrapper which is a monster)
so if you are going to get a flash player, go for swfdec.
It's nice to be in a peaceful place like this.

I agree on swfdec being superior to Gnash. And since swfdec started to be shipped with Gnome, requests have jumped through the roof on their bug tracker. More interest equals more developers equals more love from the open source community.
