Re: Call of Duty 4

I checked the CPU usage, it sadly is at 100 percent. Thats crazy because in Windows it used only 70 percent or so and my FPS in Windows is nuts. Also, when I am running Call of Duty 4 the memory usage percentage is very low. Any ideas on what I can do about this.

Thanks again!

Re: Call of Duty 4

Low memory usage is good why would you want it to be all bloated? Also if you look at what wine has to do interpreting all those OS calls and converting directx into openGL its quite understandable why the CPU usage would be that high, its not crazy at all. If you want to run these types of games under wine get a FASTER processor or over clock your rig a little to squeeze that extra juice out of it.

Re: Call of Duty 4

Here is a complete guide to get Call of Duty 4 up and running. It's written for ubuntu but the procedure is straight forward and you should have no problem substituting some commands mentioned by their ARCH counterparts.

Enjoy

Re: Call of Duty 4

Thanks for the info, but I already had Call of Duty 4 working already. Haha, now its time to just get it to run better. I overclocked it a bit and got it to work alright, but I will continue to see what I can do.

Thanks all!

Re: Call of Duty 4

Just had a look at the guide myself and at the end of the guide he lists some things that should be turned off for optimal performance. So if you have not already done so turn these off and see if you get an improvement in fps:
Anti-aliasing
Sync Every Frame
Shadows
Specular Map
Depth of Field
Glow
Number of Dynamic Lights
Soften Smoke Edges

Re: Call of Duty 4

Yup, all of those are off, and it runs fine, well if you can 40 fps good. I mean, I am not going to complain, I am so thankful it works
I tried overclocking and it helped out a lot. I believe I am going to buy a better heatsink/fan so I can use overclocking. And no worries, haha, I am decent with computers.
