I'm building kernel26zen. (for ext4, splash, powertop support and march=native)
It builds just fine but I've been pondering for ages how to remove initramfs?
I've disabled initramfs support in kernel config and tried to build sata drivers inside kernel.
Then I remove initrd line from grub and it fails to boot.
So is the procedure correct or/and am I just missing the right modules/ satadrivers?

From my gentoo times I remember that you don't even need to remove initramfs support from kernel - not specifying initrd line in grub should be enough. I'd say that you're missing some modules.
