What desktop are you using? KDE has one built in, it can be started with kpowersave. I bet gnome would have something built in as well, though I don't know for sure. If you want to use something else there's a few options on the AUR

I'm using gnome. Ubuntu had this. Maybe I can boot in to it and see what it is.

It is gnome-power-manager.
I installed it from the regular repos.

just installed Arch and unable to find several kde apps , eg. kpowersave
pacman -Ss kpowersave returns nothing
mine is a standard install with kde, any advise is appreciated

My mistake, it's been a while since I installed this system and I thought that was part of the base KDE. Turns out kpowersave is a seperate package in AUR.
