Hi
I've been looking for good programs for FE & CFD analysis and CAD tools for years. I always struggled to turn them into arch packages. [1] [2]
Now I found Salome-Meca 2008 which is really easy to install. Uzip the whole archive in /opt, run a postinstall python script and you're done. Wow. Well ok, it isn't yet turned into an arch package but it's working great.
Salome-Meca 2008 features:
- Salome v.3.2.9 Pre-Post processor
- Code-Aster v9.2 FE solver
Salome can also be used to work together with openfoam (CFD) and other FE solvers, e.g. impact (AUR package here)
Have fun trying out this nice tools!
Best regards, Sigi

I can not run Salome
when ./runSalomeMeca i get:
Can not load application library "libSalomeApp.so":libGLU.so.1 cannot open shared object file. No such file or directory.
Sigi did you try to install it and is it working?

Yes I did and it's working great.
$ pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libGLU.so
/usr/lib/libGLU.so is owned by mesa 7.0.3rc3-1
Are you using the OSS graphics driver or a proprietary one?

If you're interested in FEM under ArchLinux, you can try my pacakges at AUR:
Code-Aster (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7429) as a fem solver
and gmsh (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=4094) as a pre and post-processor
In these days I'm working on the update of Code-Aster to the version 9.3.0.
