I'm new to Arch myself, came over from the Gentoo side. The thing I've liked best about these two distros is how much I'm able to learn just by using it. I've only had my Arch system running for 3 days, but I can already tell you that if you're in it for the ride, you're at the right place.
Welcome, and hello to everyone from me as well!

Been running Arch now for about 2 weeks and to be honest I could have thrown it out a few times but I have stuck with it so far. Its a great distro but needs a fair amount of work to get things how you would like them and I haven't even touched AUR yet

No I won't chuck a wobbly. Though, in my middle-agedness I have grown to learn compassion, empathy and reverence for human life that was missing in my younger days, and therefore, I do find an avatar of a morbid woman disturbing and tragically sad.
I was quite fascinated with the macabre as a kid, and my own av and nickname still reflect that legacy to a point, but tragedies in real life have a way of forcing growth upon you.
Oh, and welcome to Arch!

"chuck a wobbly" . . . a phrase I have never heard.

Shortly, you will be wondering what all the fuss was about.
Shortly after that, you will be wondering why more distros don't do things the way arch does things.
Goodluck, but you'll be fine.

i never understood the fuss over this one. i guess in artsying up, i accidently made it more macabre. it's only part of a larger still from some goofy japanese movie made in the '70s. the original pic (which, sadly, i've lost) was in overblown technicolor.
Yo fuscia, welcome home
thanks, finf, but i'm not even on the porch yet. i'll get there.

i do hope i get there. arch sounds like the way i want things. i hate extra junk i don't need. i've done ok with the strip method, but i'm ready to just install what i need. i'm also realizing that i can just keep trying to install arch until it's done. i've got enough livecds to check my gmail and i don't really need my computer for anything else (just an end user). sooner, or later, i see this happening. thank you all for your encouragement.

yip, now the fun begins! keep the wiki in mind if/when you run into problems; in my experience, the answers have always been there. but of course, if they aren't the forums and irc channel have so many helpful people.
I've seen young people waste their time reading books about sensitive vampires. It's kinda sad. But you say it's not the end of the world... Well, maybe it is!
