[SOLVED]Anybody have DVB working in Totem 2.22?

Totem's YouTube browser works nicely here but I've had no joy at all trying to get it to play DVB-t.  I have all of the necessities listed on the Totem project web page for DVB support:

- A DVB-T card supported by Linux:  2 x KWorld DVB-t cards that are detected and work in Kaffeine and Xine.

- A channels.conf file containing the channel tuning information named ~/.gstreamer-0.10/dvb-channels.conf:  I just copied the one that I use for Xine, changing the filename accordingly.  The project page doesn't say anything about the channels.conf having to be in a specific format.

- gst-plugins-bad 0.10.6, as well as Fluendo's MPEG demuxer:

local/gstreamer0.10-bad 0.10.6-2
local/gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins 0.10.6-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)
local/gstreamer0.10-fluendo 0.10.15-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)

But when I try Movie -> Watch TV on 'DVB Adapter 0' or 'DVB Adapter 1' all I get is "Totem cannot play this type of media (Digital Television) because you do not have the appropriate plugins to handle it."  There is no error output if I run totem from the console.

And the answer is that the gstreamer dvb plugin is missing from the gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins package.  Problem solved and bug filed (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10166).

Re: [SOLVED]Anybody have DVB working in Totem 2.22?

hi,azleifel:
i installed Totem-2.22 from source, and installed some additional packages.
when i run Totem and select "Watch TV on 'DVB Adapter 0'", channels are correctly loaded in playlist box
after few seconds the playback starts but is jerky (about 2 secs between each frame) and no audio
i think may be some mistakes in some packages   sad
       what packages you installed???
       thanks~

Re: [SOLVED]Anybody have DVB working in Totem 2.22?

I've got the following standard Arch x86_64 packages installed:

totem 2.22.0-2
totem-plparser 2.22.1-1
gstreamer0.10-bad 0.10.6-2
gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins 0.10.6-2

plus

gstreamer0.10-fluendo 0.10.15-1

from AUR.  gstreamer0.10-fluendo is the only one that I compiled locally.

What I have found is that the DVB functionality in Totem isn't good enough yet for it to be a replacement for kaffeine.  I can get video on all channels - no choppiness - but there are 5 (out of 35) that have sound problems.  Sometimes I do get sound from these 5 channels, but it will normally be out of sync with the video.

Re: [SOLVED]Anybody have DVB working in Totem 2.22?

hi,azleifel:
    Thaaanks first smile
When I use gstreamer to be backend, the problem still, jerky and no audio.
I installed Totem on Fedora8, compiled gstreamer-0.10.19,gst-plugins-base-0.10.19,gst-plugins-good-0.10.7,gst-plugins-ugly-0.10.7,gst-plugins-bad-0.10.6-2 and
gst-ffmpeg-0.10.3 on my x86_32,and also installed 'libmpeg2' and 'gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux' additionally.
When I use xine to be backend,my device(AverMedia A800 DVB-T) works well, and playback is good.
The audio out of sync with the video, may be some problems with DVB signal?Or the audio/video decoder modules?
I also think the DVB functionality in Totem isn't good enough, may be sometime later,it will be better. smile

Re: [SOLVED]Anybody have DVB working in Totem 2.22?

I agree, it seems to be partly signal strength and partly that xine-lib is better than gstreamer-bad for watching DVB.  I've got improved performance by installing the latest 0.10.6.4 pre-release of gst-plugins-bad but totem will still lose sound from some channels if I swap between channels too quickly.
