SLiM Daemon Fails to Shutdown Properly

When the daemons are shutting down while restarting and it's SLiMs turn to shutdown, it fails to do so. It actually shows up twice and fails both times.

I deleted all the info in SLiMs log and did a clean restart and found this at the top;

XIO:  fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"

      after 17467 requests (17467 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

slim: waiting for X server to shut downXIO:  fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

      after 155828 requests (155825 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

Everything works fine... it's uh... just pretty annoying seeing it fail every time I reboot my computer.

Thanks for any help.

Re: SLiM Daemon Fails to Shutdown Properly

Are you actually putting slim in your DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf or are you using the /etc/inittab method?  I know alot of folks like to use the daemon method but alot of us prefer the iniitab as well and that might fix your particular problem.

Re: SLiM Daemon Fails to Shutdown Properly

Yep, that did it. I hadn't even heard of inittab before, so I did a quick search for it on the wiki which led me to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Add … tab_Method.

Thanks, it works perfectly now.

edit; Actually, the same errors still show up in /var/log/slim.log... but I don't see the "FAIL" in bright red every time I reboot since switching methods (SLiM is not listed anymore), which is all I really wanted anyways.

Re: SLiM Daemon Fails to Shutdown Properly

I prefer to use slim as daemon, so is there anyone that knows how to get rid of the fail message?

Just curious, what advantage do you find in starting slim as a daemon?
