I am using the gnome desktop and when I insert a USB stick or CD I get the icon on my desktop, then a Nautilus window of its contents, followed almost immediately by a second Nautilus window the same as the first. When I de-select the "Browse media when inserted" options in the "File Management Preferences" (System => Preferences => File Management -- Media tab) I only get one window when I insert a media, this is what I want but the setting dose not seem right. To me, I think when this option is de-selected no windows should open and I believe I have a settings problem somewhere. I am not sure where to start de-bugging this problem and would appreciate any help or suggestions that can be given.
Thank You

Try turning the volume manager off in your session startup progs, since nautilus in 2.22 should handle this anyway.
There was a thread on this here somewhere, and I think this sorted it.

Thank you for your help, things now are working the way I think they should. Also, if any one is interned I timed both methods (Nautilus and the volume manager) and Nautilus was faster (not by much). Also I take no claims to the accuracy of my test.

You could mark the thread as Solved?

I guess I should. I just have to change the title of the first post, that is all right.
