Since I went over Linux completely I have missed my fix of Neverwinter Nights and have not to the point where I need my fix again. I have tried to get it running under wine which I got from the repo's but it just crashes when I try and install NWN. I have thought about downloading the Linux client but as I have got both expansions I am unsure as to the best way to go about doing it this way. The other options are installing installing Windows XP on Virtualbox but I have a feeling that the performance will suck even if I get the came to run in the first place. The last option is to dual boot, but this is my least favourite option as it would mean running Vista as most of the hardware on my laptop is not supported under XP.

that crash in wine it's strange.. I've tried nwn (copied directly from my xp partition) 2 month ago and all gone well
locking at the appdb it should run just fine.. can you give us some more details?
about the linux client I've heard that it doesn't play in game movies ... so the better option would be wine...
(there is a nwn package in AUR too but I don't know anything about it..)
let us know

wine crashes just after I run the NWN installer. I do not have a Windows partition to copy the files from so am having to try and install from the CD's.

uhm.. without a console log of the crash and the version you are using all that I can suggest is to build the new version 0.9.60 and to try with a new .wine (removing the old one that sometimes can give troubles between version).. I hope someone can be more useful

Woah woah woah, what CD version are you using? NWN actually has a Linux port, and it works quite well (I speak from experience).
If you have the Diamond Edition you can use this: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6083
Otherwise this page should have the information and links you need to install it.

The version I have is the original 3 CD version plus the 2 expansions.

NWN is running great for me using the native linux client.
I use the 3 cd set (original + 2 epx packs)
It is a pita to set up though, as you have to download a 1.2 GB archive, but it's runs ever so smoothly.
When i get home tonight i'll write down the steps i followed to get it up and running if you want.
Including the fix to switch to windowed mode with alt-enter
EDIT: Better yet, i'll see if i can come up with a modified PKGBUILD for the 3CD version...

The one big problem with the Linux client is a the size of the download as I have a limit of 5GB a month
