Hi!
I'm using my computer as a media center and therefore got it connected to my amp through a DAC. I'm using the digital out connection on my soundcard and got a toslink going from the computer to the DAC. The sound is working, but I can't control the volume. Anyone know what I need to do? ![]()

I use a coaxial digital output, and the only way for me to adjust the volume on it is the PCM channel.
Yours should be this:

You can control PCM's volume using alsamixer from alsa-utils package
PCM channel should be there.

I know. But it doesn't affect the digital out volume. I've tried muting/unmuting, +/- every volume option in alsamixer, but nothing affects the digital out volume.
I need to configure one of the config files connected to the sound output so that I can link the PCM volume to the digital volume. I just can't figure out how. ![]()
Can you post your asound.state (or .asoundrc) please Setsuna so I can compare it to mine?

I'm testing the volume with mpd/sonata.
When I get this fixed I will be mainly using freevo. Since I'm having problems with the volume I can't use freevo's volume control that I've got mapped to my remote. It's really annoying.
When this is out of my way I can do most of what I need from the amazing comfort of my couch. ![]()

Exactly, that's why it is called "passthrough". It sends the digital signal as-is and your amp does hardware decoding.
