Creating a FTP Server

I have A Desktop computer and I was wondering if it was possible to just use my IP as a File Server? It is Dynamic but I have a way to check its IP before I use it from school.

Re: Creating a FTP Server

If you are wondering if it is possible to setup an ftpserver on you computer, sure it is.
I use the ftpserver program proftpd, but you can choose others like for example pureftp.

To overcome the problem with dynamic ip adresses I use the service offered by www.dyndns.org.

Re: Creating a FTP Server

I have a FTP server running at home behind a router which has a dynamic IP.

I have an account at dyndns and I update my IP with inadyn, but there are other clients as well. On the dyndns site there are good tutorials on these clients.

As ftp server daemon, I use vsftpd and I found basic setup to be quite simple.

Also, if your server is located behind a router, make sure to forward port 21 to your server desktop.
