added mtpaint, netkit-ftp, qt 4.3.3, smplayer, exaile, lmms, and firefox3. Firefox 2 is still in iso.

I dropped my server folder.

I may start doing a monthly iso release then just have weekly updated modules. This will save me time uploading the iso.

Everything is updated to 20080425. (NOTE: some of the aur packages may not be up to date).

PS I started this new topic cause the older one is petty full. And if any one wants to mirror my website be my guest. It will be of great help.

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

1) Cause the older post links to my dead sf.net host project.

2) I think its pretty full. I have over 100 replies in the last one.

I hope the helps explain why i made this new topic on arch-live.

godane, thanks for your helpful work!

Are you going to build a special version of your livecd for usb sticks (just like new archiso images with extension *.img)?

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

there is a script called bootinst.sh that will allow you to make arch-live boot off of a usb key. The script is in the boot folder.

You can go here to learn more:
http://www.slax.org/documentation_install_slax.php

You just do it the same way slax does it. I just have it has a iso only cause it takes to long to upload. And based on the slax docs it will just be fine to copy whats in the iso to the usb and execute the script.

This may help you too:
http://wiki.zenwalk.org/index.php?title … ash_Memory

i worked on the zenedu project too and i know this works.

I hope this helps.

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

i have just upload a new redesign iso. Everything is updated to 20080430.

I dropped a lot of deps need for my old kdemod/kdemod4 modules. The iso now is 397.3MB. big_smile I making a base so users can use isomaster to remake the CD or add modules from my repo.
http://arch-live.isawsome.net/modules/

Here is where the new iso is:
http://arch-live.isawsome.net/iso/20080 … 080430.iso
http://arch-live.isawsome.net/iso/20080 … 30.iso.md5

here is a list of what I removed:
kompozer
kino
gnome-commander
lmms
totem-xine
totem-plugin
xchm
smplayer
firefox3b5
xaos
rapidsvn

merge to 05-xapps.lzm:
audacious
audacious-plugins
brasero
gtkpod
mtpaint
xchant
hardinfo
catfish

replace in 05-xapps.lzm:
mirage replaces gthumb

I also added system tools package from zenwalk. This has zenpanel and all the scripts for zenpanel. If anyone want to make scripts compatible with archlinux then be my guest. My z.confg.lzm overlaps the videoconfig script in systemtools.

I hope this helps everyone. big_smile

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

20080508 version is up now.

http://arch-live.isawsome.net/iso/20080508/

I removed the game emulators from iso cause it belongs in my module repo more:

http://arch-live.isawsome.net/modules/

For some reason openbox doesn't work with slim anymore. Fluxbox works though. If someone can fix this it will help greatly.

I hope this helps.

PS Added rebuildarch package to base/core folder.

Well...Good evening.

Currently I am using Zenwalk but I have been reading a lot about Arch Linux and it is finally getting my
attention. Right now I am using your Live version and I like it a lot!!!

Could I install this version on my laptop??????????????? Do you have similar version available for hard drive installation?????????????

Thanks!

You could add the option for booting into an existing Arch installation. It is a very useful feature. Continue your excellent work.

Thanks you very much.

This could be done but I use a different kernel then archlinux. There is also the problem of what device i set it too also. Some may have archlinux installed in hda1 but others may have it on hda2. sad

And since i use the kernel from slax for the linux-live scripts to work I don't think it would be a smart thing for me to do.

Thanks for your input.

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

Hello Godane,

I tried your live arch distro once, so i am sorry if this is a little bit offtopic.
But i read your post and the threads. So i have some questions which would be nice
if you can answer them for me.

1. If i understand right you mount the packages with aufs. How many modules can it  mount , what is
limit of aufs?
2. You submitted a script which could make a module of the cache. So if my pkgcache is empty i want to
install a package and make a module out of it, it gets all needed dependencies or only the needed updates of the dependencies? I ask this because if remember right you direct pacman to an empty root in your script. Does this mean that the sytem sees this with a new pacman db which is empty and has to build it from ground up, like to even low as gcc?
3. If i could make a modules of a package with all dependencies in it, do we reach the status of klik or macos
installions containers. Have anybody the experiences to use such a module with an outofdate live-godane-arch-system ( :-) )  ?

Thanks for your answers.

Thanks for your answers.

1. The limit is 1023. You can do a 'cat /sys/fs/aufs/config' to know the exactly what aufs is complied with.

2. Doing a 'arch2lzm merge kdemod' would clean you cashe folder and then download all the packages not installed to the cashe folder. Then my script will make a will install all packages in to a folder to be turned into a module. So the answer for you question is my script only makes a module with deps if there not installed in the current system. The only reason its done this way is cause the modules would become too big and too many packages overlapping in aufs.

3. Out date modules are fine if there not modules 01-06 in iso. Its only when there are big system changes (like kernel updated) that there may be a problem.

I hope this helps.

On Arch Linux install cd there is an option like arch root=/dev/sdx noinitrd ... that boot an existing kernel. I haven't yet "studied" the way it is accomplished and if can be applied to your live cd.

Something else... Have you made any thoughts to migrating to grub over isolinux? Just an idea.

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

Hi Godane ,
I get the following error when i try to run liloinst.sh script

Flushing filesystem buffers, this may take a while...
Updating MBR to setup boot record...
Warning: /dev/sdb is not on the first disk
Fatal: Illegal 'root=' specification: /dev/ram0

Do you know what is the problem?

Thanks

Re: archiso-live cd release (20081005)

I have not use liloinst.sh script. But from the error it looks like it thinks that sdb is not the first disk and root=/dev/ram0 is illegal. wink

I have no idea how to help you with this. I would go here to learn how to make the usb key boot.

http://wiki.zenwalk.org/index.php?title … ash_Memory

i would also check the here too:

http://www.slax.org

Sorry I can't be of more help. Also I use syslinux for my usb key. I didn't like using lilo boot manager at all.

The correct Arch partition can be found with GRUB4DOS:

find --set-root /etc/arch-release

GRUB4DOS can be used for USB boot from FAT instead of syslinux.

IMO, a live CD might have 2 purposes :
a) recovery data into a broken system
b) demonstrating the capabilities of a live distro

In the case a, I'd propose some recovery tools. In particular I'd like to know if testdisk is include, as well as other file/partition handling/recovering.
Just a while back a friend of mine faced a partition reformatting sad

In the other case I will be fine to put  most of graphic programs and all the tools to get working as a normal installed version. So whom will need some office work will find all the things there, also chances to do most of those business tasks.
