gdm 2.21

Hi all,

i was wondering if anyone knows if gdm 2.21 is in the works for Arch? I have been playing around with Fedora9 lately and one of the things that stands out is the new professional looking and animated GDM. I even use it for KDE because it is so much better then kdm at the moment. Or is it connected to xorg-server 1.5 or something like that?

odd numbers in gnome releases are unstable devel version, so most likely it will not be in the repos

GDM Rewrite

A rewrite of GDM is underway. On 15 October 2007, the new design replaced the existing SVN trunk.

At the moment, this rewrite provides a functional login program, but is missing some features which are in the last stable (2.20) branch. It would be great if more people could get involved to help complete the rewrite.

The existing stable branch will continue to be maintained with bug fixes until the rewrite is ready. Apologies for any inconveniences this causes while we are working on this rewrite.

As usual you can test and use this exiting development version by compiling it on your own by the magic of ABS.
If you need some inspiration see how people at Fedora or Ubuntu compile the package. Also you might get into trouble since the new gdm depends on ConsoleKit which itself will depends on PolicyKit which are both not packaged with Arch see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=47706 for more info on *kit packages.
