Does Archlinux remove codecs and other things from it's source code?

A lot of distro do this for legal reasons. (sorry for the stupid question, but I'm kind of bored waiting for the arch disk to download) smile

another quick question, how do you view Subscribed Threads.

I believe you're mistaken on the codec situation, they are not removed from any "source code", rather they are simply not provided in the installation by default.

See the wiki for information on obtaining the codecs.
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Common_codecs

codecs arn't part of the source code. Arch installs barebones off the cd so there isn't really anything apart from what you need to build a system.
pacman -S codecs

I guess I confused everyone, distro like Red Hat will remove mp3 support from the xine library, I was trying to ask if archlinux does this to?

Nope. It's your choice to install progs like xine, and *you* should know what possible legal troubles come with it smile

Well, if you need something really special, better take a closer look at the packages.
