Re: fbsplash problems

Try splashy. Both are a little broken.
Splash in arch sucks.

Re: fbsplash problems

True, but that part of fbsplash is problematic.

Re: fbsplash problems

Men, what did i do wrong? I tried to install Splashy (read about it in ArchWiki), and my system crashed and refused to boot. Did everything as described.

Contrary to popular belief, Unix is user-friendly. It just happens to be very selective whom to make friends with

Re: fbsplash problems

sharsma, you understand "but it didn't work" doesn't tell anything.

What exactly didn't work? What did dmesg say, what exactly you tried??

fbcondecor works for me (when I use a fb console) so I wonder wht your problems are?

Re: fbsplash problems

The splash packages are rubbish. Someone who knows what he is doing needs to take over them.

The packages kernel26fbcondecor and fbsplash in AUR don't really work right now.

I'm not quite sure, if I know, what I'm doing, but I've adopted kernel26fbcondecor and fbsplash in the hope, I can find out, why this is such a problem on Arch. I mean, I don't have any problems with both on Gentoo, only on Arch. But if it runs on Gentoo, it must be able to run on Arch, too.

My guess is, that it has something to do with the kernel configuration, but I could find only one or two possible problems, but fixing these, doesn't fix the splash problems.

My second guess is, that the problem is in the initrd, which is created by mkinitcpio. I checked the script splash_geninitramfs, but I again found only one or two differences between this script and the install script for the fbsplash HOOK. I'll take a deeper look into this.

It doesn't belong directly to this topic, but does anyone know, how to mount the initrds, which are created by mkinitcpio and splash_geninitramfs? Then I could check the resulting initrds directly.
