Hi
Just wondering if arch is tweaked for KDE3.5.
I've tried many distros: *buntu, SuSE, RH, FC, Zenwalk, Vector, Saby, Mandrake, Mint, Gentoo, PClos, Debian, Mepis, Knoppix and DSL.
On all of them, GNOME 2.22 was more responsive than KDE3.5 - that is my experience.
However, Arch KDE3.5 is more responsive than GNOME2.2 on arch.
Thus, begs the question - has something been done to make KDE3.5 harmonise with Arch?
Just wondering.
And when I say responsive, I refer to the overall desktop experience .. opening apps, windows, point-n-click . I do not refer to questionable benchmarks that standalone outside of the desktop experience, such as hdparm, and the other "benchmarking tools". My experience could be "subjective" nevertheless, it is my experience.

It wasn't tweaked, it's fast cause KDE is vanilla ( clean and without dirty patches ) and arch is a fast distro, Suse, PCLos ... patch kde with couple of not nice patches.
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

please elaborate "dirty" patches?

Arch isn't tweaked for kde 3.5, but kdemod is tweaked for arch!

Strange... the Ubuntu guys normally say that KDE is much faster for them...
He hoped and prayed that there wasn't an afterlife. Then he realized there was a contradiction involved here and merely hoped that there wasn't an afterlife.

Peraphs. But I was at pain to stress that it was my experience.
I even used bold typeface for my to enforce this, because I was concious that its subjective and based on a plethora of variables such as: hardware, free memory, application being used, desktop settings etc.etc.

I find kde to be a tad faster than gnome, at least from 3.5.8 onwards.
Try something like sidux and you'll find another example of how fast kde can be.

I'm happy with arch. :-)

Well other distro's use some patches that are unstable, kde from extra in arch doesn't use them and kdemod also doesn't use them ( kdemod shift only with some eye-candy patches).
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.
