Hi, I'd like to set my network interface card status to D3 because to I'd like to Wake On Lan the machine that card is installed on.
There a couple of tools to do this such as `ethtool' and `pci-config' but I'd like to do set the card status without using any program but simply "echoing" something into `/proc' or `/sys' directory.
Is it possible?

Furthermore I'm facing a strange (at least for me) situation.
I have two different machines with the same NIC.
The kernel is the same on both machines and kernelconfigurations are almost the identical.
On the first one Wake On Lan works without having to do anything.
On the second one it doesn't until I use some kind of tool.
How is it possible?

what is the NIC ??
& what are the MBs ??

The NICs are two D-Link DFE-578TX. (8139too)
The MB on which the wake on lan works only after using ethtool is an Asus CUSL2.
The MB on which the wake on lan works without setting anything is a Microstar 845PE Max2.
