I just noticed that the ftp command is not found... wtf? how do I ftp in terminal? Or does anyone have a cmdline/text-based program that I can get from pacman? Or... I guess if there is a rly outstanding gui app

Hello,
Install package netkit-ftp with pacman. There are other ftp packages too. Just type "ftp" into the packages search field on the home page.

I use Filezilla on the regular, I really like it. +1 to netkit-ftp, great for basic command-line tasks.
