deleted AUR packages

Hi,

Is there any policy regarding the deletion of some AUR packages ?

Recently, I packaged rinse which is similar to debootstrap, but for RPM-based distributions. rinse requires rpm but it seems rpm was deleted. Can anyone tell me why ?

I think what happened (as far as I could guess from the ML) is that it got orphaned, and somebody must have adopted it and deliberately deleted.

But don't despair! Nothing gets completely deleted in AUR, so you can get the original rpm PKGBUILD at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rpm/ - and I think you can maintain it, if you feel like (just reupload the tarball).

Yeah, I orphaned it in order free up time to maintain more packages in the [community] repo and do other Arch related stuff. Then it disappeared...

I think that those packagers that depend on a to-be-deleted package (in this case, rpm) should be informed before the deletion takes place (why it is to be done, what can be done to prevent it), so nobody is left with unmet dependencies, and in case one of those packagers would want to take it over.

Good idea. Perhaps it would be even better if all deletions had to be approved by a TU. That way someone can't pack up their toys and leave.

You should file a feature request in the "AUR" section of the bug tracker.

Bingo. There's an <insert insult here> person who is deleting stuff from the AUR. Who writes a web app and doesn't think of the potential ways of abuse, anyway?
