Shutdown reboot failure after "rebooting system" message displayed

Hi folks,
My search fu may not be working well so please excuse me if this is posted elsewhere.

I have a dualboot Dell Optiplex 745 at work with XP and Arch. Running /sbin/shutdown -r (-h) works fine until I get to the final message "rebooting system" then it hangs. I'm guessing it is some sort of bios call failing or something but really have no idea what to do or where to look. System is fully updated and works fine otherwise. Shutting down from boot disk also hangs in the same place. I just tried a Slackware 11 install disk and issuing reboot resulted in the same problem.

Thanks Misbah!

reboot=bios did it.

Had GX 260 running 24/7 for years with no problems. Do think the quality has dropped since though.
