First things first, I'm a VIM newbie, so if what I'm doing is stupid, please forgive.
I like working on dark terminals, and prefer using the "torte" colors in GVIM. When I type <Esc>:colors torte, than everything works fine. However, when I add colors torte to my ~/.vimrc, then when restarting GVIM, the colors all change to light colors, but the background stays a light color also instead of changing to black.
I have also tried to add set background=dark in my ~/.vimrc, but nothing seems to help, even when trying to set the dark background without setting the color scheme.

maybe related to http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10303 ?
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Ah yes, adding it to my ~/.gvimrc fixed the problem.
