SLiM / Xorg: freeze every fifth or so startup ?!

Hi there,

i have a slight issue regarding SLiM. I have noticed that once in every 5 X startups or so my laptop freezes with merely a "_" in the top left corner. It does this when trying to start SLiM after a boot/reboot/logout. When this happens I cannot even switch to other tty's anymore and have to hard reset my laptop with the power button. There does not seem to be any logic in when it decides to freeze or not, sometimes i need to boot my laptop twice in a row to get it working, at other times it starts X fine all day long.

does anyone know what might be causing this?

thanks,
stefan

Re: SLiM / Xorg: freeze every fifth or so startup ?!

I haven't seen slim crash like that. The only time I have made it crash is when I keep killing the x server with ctrl-alt-backspace. At that point I get shunted to the console with an error message that says x is respawning too fast.
But of course that's really the x server having issues at that point and not slim.

Are you running slim as a daemon or from inittab?
