Hello - unencrypted dvds seem to work no hassle. Its the ones that are encrypted that causes trouble.
At the moment I can only play an encrypted DVD if it is under root and Xine. Mplayer doesnt work for both root and normal user. Same with VLC.
libdvdcss seems to be the source of my problems...
this is the following groups my user is in right now... :
tty lp wheel network video audio optical storage scanner power users tofu vboxusers
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks Skottish - reading your bug report questions answered helped me get encrypted dvds to play....
"Thank you Skottish for those very usefull information.
I doubt it is a 32 bits vs 64 bits problem.
I have to say that your problem is hard to investigate ;-)
Looking around on the net I found something that we did not try, here :
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=6
Remove your ~/.dvdcss directory to make sure you run in a clean environment.
Then run the following command in a terminal (with an encrypted DVD in the drive) :
export DVDCSS_METHOD=title && mplayer dvd://1 -dvd-device /dev/dvd
The forum post give an explaination about this trick, from libdvdcss README.
At the point we are, even Ubuntu can help ;-)"
It was the removal of the ~/.dvdcss directory I believe that enabled me to play it. It must be from when I backed up my home folder on a NTFS partition and mass copied it over...
Well. Its fixed now. Thanks. - And I too am running a 64 bit Arch Installation (though not as pure as yours since it has Windows on it for compatibility issues.)
