Omnicppcompletion for vim, I think I need some help setting it up

Hi everyone, I'm currently trying to setup omnicppcompletion for vim and the first thing I tried was downloading and installing the ctags and omnicppcompletion packages through pacman, but I have hit a wall.  When I run vim and open a .cpp file and I use a . or ->, which would presumably list the members of the current object, I get an error at the bottom of the screen that says Omni Completion (^O^N^P) Pattern not found.  I used
:h omnicppcompletion and tried to follow the install guide, generated a tags file, and set the tags path in the .vimrc file, but I'm still quite confused and it's obviously not working.  What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?
