The image is within the border and size requirements for this board. I've tried uploading the image from my computer in .png and .jpg format and the message says the changes have been saved, but there's no avatar in my posts or in my profile.
What am I missing here?

I had the same problem a while back. My solution was to load it from a URL which worked... :?
Follow the link below, sign up, and accept one promotional offer. If I can get five suckers (err... friends) to do this, I'll get a free iPod. Then you too can try to get a free iPod. Thanks! http://www.freeiPods.com/?r=11363142

Well, I just did that too, but it's definitely easier uploading from local :?

hmm makes no sense to me because:
why should files copied from a url make no problems and uploaded avatars do? isn't it the same dir? or am i too stupid for that :?:

your user info is stored in a record in the database, and so is your avantar link.
if you try to upload a link is made in database and the avantar is add to the directory. if it is a web link, it is put into your user info record.

i won't start hairsplitting but:
the picture doesn't seem to be linked, for me this looks more like the picture is always copied into the directory :
my avatar for example is :
http://bbs.archlinux.org/images/avatars … 6234cf.jpg
to test that i just delted the url, the image came from, and my avatar still works
nothing,
maybe I have a perfect signature _someday_

I always just figured I wasn't allowed to have a avatar since it
would never upload or show up, and the people with avatars
were just special and privledged archy gurus.
Anyway thanks for the info. I tried it from url and poof I'm now
special like you guys
