2008.04-RC Images are out

I have downloaded from a different mirror the latest .img file I could find. the md5sum's checked out just fine. I proceeded to put the image onto my usb key using Neotuli's method and then booted it on my test computer. The results, thus far, are exactly the same as what I encountered previously with the same image file I had downloaded last week from a different mirror. Below are the resulting errors when I went to install the packages:

I kept the logs from the aborted installation in case anyone could make use of them. I hope this helps debug the issue.

Hi,

I was just curious about the Image process. I have read that kernel 2.6.26 is currently in RC status and this being a RC image release, would it not be logical to base it on a 2.6.26 kernel instead of the "older" 2.6.25 kernel?

otherwise the installer works fine for me, the grub splash is a nice addition that would look nice in the installed OS as well but for some reason isn't installed enen though it is a "live" system that should be comparable to the installed OS, right?

That's not logical. If you act like that, you will never ever make any stable releases.

I don't know how this stuff works, but if you are interested, why don't you look? Just because the default grub on installed OS isn't like that doesn't mean you can't change it

I think the file /etc/ntpd.conf was installed by default from this iso (belonging to no package), preventing me from later installing ntp or openntpd. Sorry if this has already been reported; I didn't do any looking around this time.

EDIT: I meant /etc/ntp.conf as well.

I didn't bother to search this thread, but please note that recent upgrade of AUR breaks the FTP install if you have AUR selected during package selection step.

Yeah, we've been set up to pull the trigger for quite a while now, all we need is that new kernel, since that's our release schedule.

No showstoppers AFAIK. Fixing http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10075 if possible would be great IMO since it produces some very ugly messages but it works anyhow

/etc/ntpd.conf might really come from the ISO, but files like /etc/ntp.conf, /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/yp.conf could also get created when you use DHCP.

And +1 for inclusion of dmraid, makes totally sense on an install cd.

Hi, I just tried the 2008.04-rc iso a try on virtualbox and it works great!
I have a question (not a complain )
I've seen that now arch uses UUID instead of the /dev/something directory, on the installation setup all goes well automatically and I didn't have to change the fstab/grub entries, anyway can I ask why this method is better than the previous?
I'm sure I can change it in any moment but I found it less KISS..
Anyway thanks to the developers for the good work and excuse me for the long post in bad english.

Ah sorry for doubleposting but I have to point out one thing...
I just reinstalled archlinux on my real hard drive since virtualbox install has gone well...

- in the FIRST boot when it checks hard drives it fails... it shows this error messages

Superblock last mount time is in the future. FIXED
/dev/sda3 (my root) has gone 49709 days without being checked, check forced
the system will be rebooted in 15 seconds..

- in the reboot it complain about the

but this time the system start correctly
- other reboot just goes fine without any error/warning

I'm aware this is not an useful report... since I don't provide anything useful, but I couldn't find those messages in a log or reproduce the buggy behavior.
if there is some place where I can look pls tell me... I hope I didn't miss the wiki again

Thanks a lot for this brilliant liveCD/USB.
I have tried the liveUSB and it worked like a charm.
I had too the strange "throws open the cdrom tray" at boot time, already reported in the thread, but this is the only issue I had.

This is really what I was looking for. FaunOS is brilliant too. But I prefere something small from which you can build you dream LiveUSB

EDIT : I have had a look to the README in the git repo. It is quite clear, thanks. But since there are new liveUSB possibilities I guess more people will use those scripts. Is it planned to package them or the best way to get those scripts will remain the git repo ?

I think I know the issue, but it's not a showstopper. In fact, it's kinda funny, to me.

2008.04-rc love it using it and happy whith it , but UUid etc XXX stuff did not work for me will not boot error mesages and looped at grub. so iIused the cd (great splash image by the way) to reboot and mounted my root partition /dev/sdb1 and nano /boot/grub/menu.lst and changed it to

it is a gateway PC whith one of those phenom cuad cpu's 9600 and have vista on the first drive, hauppage HVR1600 and radeon HD working fine alsoI just need to figure aout how to rip dvd's the same way DVDFab does it under windows and I will be windows free for ever.
any way splash image does not work for me after installation ... is there some thing I'm doing wrong???/

Just tested the i686-ftp image.

No Problems installing Arch from it. (I skipped installing Grub)

Just one thing:
During install my LAN card was eth1 and WLAN card eth0.
But after first boot I had to change eth1 to eth0 in rc.conf. There was no device for the WLAN card.

You probably didn't install the driver for it.
