Dear all:
I tried different version of Firefox and all suffer from poor Chinese rendering performance. Opera works better at a cost of rendering quality.
I wonder whether this is related to font or something else? What can I do about it?
Thank you
Kind regards
D.

I don't know if it's related, but have you tried specific fonts for Chinese like the arphic fonts?
Also, is freetype enabled in firefox? This would also help I guess http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xorg_and_F … fox_1.0.2B.
EDIT, don't just copy that since it's quite specific. Try enabling freetype2, autohinted and disable unhinted in about:config first. See http://opensuse-community.org/SubpixelH … figuration.

Configure your fonts.conf properly and Firefox (with its default config) should have perfect Chinese rendering, according to my own experience. You may search the wiki for some fonts config guide.
Edit: I noticed that you haven't installed any proper Chinese font. I suggest you running "pacman -S wqy-bitmapfont wqy-zenhei" to install the good-looking and FREE fonts from WenQuanYi project.

Thank you both semdornus and hk2717.
Problem solved after installing new fonts.....
Going to try out the freetype library......It is not enabled in about:config or pref.js -- is it necessary to enable it? - The performance is OK at the moment
Best,
D.
