Missing Master Control

I finally got pacman working today, so I went ahead and installed ALSA and X, as per the Beginners Guide, but when I go into "alsamixer", I ahve no Master channel.

I don't have any sound, even after unmuting every other channel.

I'm using onboard sound, my motherboard is an Asus M2NPV-MX, with an nVidia chipset.

I do have a PCM channel, which I have set to 85% (I had bad distortion problems after setting it to 100% in Ubuntu), but still no sound.

Any help would be huge.

This might sound like a stupid question but after unmuting did you also setting each channel to 50%? I don't have a master channel either for me I have to up the PCM and Front channels to acquire sound.
