I can't help with your specific problem, but have you tried the custom-bib package? It asks you lots of questions about the style you want and makes the bibtex style file. Running it may at least point you in the right direction to fixing your problem.

Thanks for your help, Allan.
If you read the above posts, you'll see that someone had already given me such suggestion, however the package biblatex-dw is quite complete, and avoids me lots of hassles. I had tried to go through custom-bib, but it was extremely confusing for me. I am looking for a simple modifier command to edit just the few entries left to adjust to my needs.

Do you have any ideas on how to have a shorttitle in italic?
Have you tried with
\DeclareFieldFormat{shorthand}{\emph{#1}\isdot}
?
(I am not sure, but I have the suspicion that shorthand is a superset of shorttitle and other forms of abbreviations.)

Thanks, I'll try that, even though I am done with essays for now. The dissertation has been submitted. I'll need this in case I'll continue studying in the future.
Thank you

sorry for being late. I wish you the best of luck with your dissertation. (I've sumitted mine in January this year. and now I've only to find a publisher... Then I'll have to have another look at some of the formatting details.)

I don't see how this is your fault, and good luck with your dissertation too
