Why is it that in the PKGBUILDs for gcc* that it says you need the de_DE locale to build gcc?
May the Schwartz be with you.

Uncomment the de_DE locales in /etc/locale.gen and run locale-gen, that should fix it.

I did as you suggested, so my gcc build is going O.K. now. However, I'm curious as to why the de_DE locales are needed to build gcc (i.e., why the PKGBUILD requires them).

Can you comment out those lines in the PKGBUILD and build the package. I was building gcc-4.3-snapshots without this locale and I don't really understand why that check is there...
Well I only use an English locale, so it might break non-English locales. That seems the problem from the mailing list link above.
