Getting IceWM and compiz fusion to work together?

I've set up my old PC with IceWM. I've just got it looking great and working insanely fast. However as IceWM and Compiz-Fusion are both window managers, if I load compiz-fusion it completely takes over my desktop. Is there a way to get compiz-fusion to run as just an effects program (I don't even mind keeping my current window decorations) so I can retain my icewm taskbar and menu but have my wobbly windows as well?

thanks in advance

Afaik, not unless icewm's menu and taskbar are seperate programs.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

You can't do that.....I believe that there is a compiz plugin to provide a right click menu like *box and icewm window managers. You could use that and perhaps some standalone panel and make it look and behave like icewm panel.

Why would you want wobbly windows anyway ? smile

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

compiz is a wm. It's not possible to separate compiz' effects from its window management. If all you want is menus panels, there are many of those available. I don't use any of them, and I'm not sure how good or alive they are, but here's a list off the top of my head:

pypanel
tint
stalonetray
trayer (?)
dmenu
dzen

there is probably better stuff. Have a look at the screenshot thread!

Thanks. I suspected that this was the case. I'll probably set up compiz-fusion with pypanel or something.
