E16 and E17 in Arch

Hi guys, I've been fiddling with E16/E17 in Arch and what can I say, the eye-candy is simply marvellous.

Initially, I installed it by doing 'pacman -S enlightenment' and checked the version in the 'about Enlightenment' and it revealed a version number 16.xx, and realized I got an old, but stable version.

So I removed E16 and also removed ~/.e. and followed the wiki* to install E17 but what I don't get is this; it seems I end up with E16, at least according to the 'about Enlightenment' message. The version numbers for both 16 & 17 are identical.

But I know I got an upgraded version because I have lot more modules now available in E"17" than I had in 16.
Anyone who could shed a light on this?

Thanks!

I could be horribly wrong on this, but I believe that DR17 is numbered as 16.999xxx, or atleast that's what I remembered when I was playing around with e17 a while ago

You are probably right, that's what I suspected also but installing 'stable' E16 from Extra renders version number 16.999xxx too, while the version number according to Arch indicated here is different:

http://archlinux.org/packages/13460/

Also, installing themes that are supposed to work only under E17 (get-e.org) work well in E16.

Re: E16 and E17 in Arch

I guess I could recommend installing e17-cvs from aur instead of e-cvs from community

Re: E16 and E17 in Arch

I think you do have E17,

I have both E16 and E17 installed since they can co-exist with no problems and the version numbers I have are:

E16: 0.16.8.13    ( pacman -S enlightenment )
E17: 0.16.999.042   ( pacman -S e17-cvs )

Re: E16 and E17 in Arch

@heleos - Thanks for the tip.

@ghosthack - I could swear the E16 had the same version number as E17, but it's probably due to something I did or didn't do when I removed E17 and re-installed E16 just to double check the version numbers..!  Thanks for clarifying though.

E17 - the latest build - is available in  cvs builds in the community repo.  It is updated approximately every two weeks.  And it runs very well.  Give it a try.  smile

I downloaded it from the community repo and found everything's working pretty much as it should. I am experiencing slightly more frequent crashes than in E16... and also the shelf turns black when I choose 'invisible' mode. But those minor nuisances are worth having considering the plethora (well, at least in an Enlightenment point of view :-) ) of modules available for E17.
