[Request] VMware Workstation 6.5 beta

Can someone please create a package for VMware Workstation 6.5 beta - it's available to everyone after signing up at http://communities.vmware.com/community … station6.5

Thanks

You can download the binaries from VMware's own site.

Why need a package.

VirtualBox is a better performer than VMware. Have you visited virtualbox website? Again, binaries are downloadable.

Re: [Request] VMware Workstation 6.5 beta

who needs a package?

i just installed WKS 6.5 Beta onto my testing Arch Linux box and all passed without a hitch.
No need for any patch on 2.6.25 etc.
cool:lol:

tried vitualbox but didn't like it.

A matter of personal choice.
I have to say that a post of "but I didn't like it" is hardly an objective assessment against established benchmarks. What it IS, clearly, is a subjective opinion without specific justifications.
Not really a helpful comment.
Why not help members by providing a technical assessment backed up with evidence based on your experiences.
At the end of the day I propose members just install both, decide and remove the vm they "dont like" !

You got it right... i am subjective.

I installed virtual box just for a try and seemed like carbon copy of vmware but that was long time ago

have to try virtual box again to test is properly.

Last time i was motivated to install virtualbox was when kernel 2.6.25 got installed onto my laptop and WKS 6.0.3 couln't configure.

so i tried virtualbox just to discover the same problem, missing modules for 2.6.25

Re: [Request] VMware Workstation 6.5 beta

OK, Downloaded Virtualbox 1.6 and installed fine,

very positive is that it is just 19MB download compared to 200+ MB of VMware WKS 6.0.x and 294MB of WKS 6.5

Tried to run Mandrive 2008 and Virtualbox realized that it supports seamless mode for the mouse right out of the box.

And it does not look like a carbon copy any more.

I will stick with virtualbox for a while now, to explore it a bit.

put the required modules is your /etc/rc.conf file, in the MODULES line.

I dont use VMware but I think the modules are vmnet and vmmon.
