Repacker is nice, maybe a twist on spelling; 'repac'

There is already a tool called repacman floating about which rebuilds a package from the files on your system.  It may be best to avoid "repac" type names to avoid a conflict.

Re: New pacman utility, rebuild and optimize packages from source

I was just pointing out that two tools with very similar names might lead to confusion.  repacman will be part of the pacman-contrib package once it gets a bit of an update.

here everything is fine.. try to remove the redirect to /dev/null after the pacman -U line (there's only one in all the file)

I don't think it is a bug of the program, maybe something is wrong with your installation

I think it's a good name, describes it well.

Also, could we have an option to change where things are built? I keep my /tmp in ram so it had issues with that after a while.

Re: New pacman utility, rebuild and optimize packages from source

I used Gentoo for several years before changing to Arch, and the main reason for the switch was that I just couldn't justify the time I was spending overseeing the compilation of packages. It's funny, though -- I'm finding great pleasure in using pacbuilder and watching that code scroll by on the screen. There's something mesmerizing about it. I feel as if my computer's doing real computer work and not just serving as a e-mail machine, Internet appliance or word processor. I know that's not a valid observation, since plenty of fancy coding underlies those applications, too, but that's how it strikes me.

My wife even noticed: "So, you're watching that stuff on your computer again, eh?"

Thanks, Cimi, for letting me get that good old Gentoo feeling again for a while. And, of course, I feel as if my machine is more responsive since I've rebuilt a couple of hundred packages from scratch with my slightly tweaked compiler flags. smile
