flash plugin 10 beta is available

here
as user: get the tgz
as root: copy libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
for those who use 64bit, as user, run  'nspluginwrapper -v -a -i'

it works fine for me with 64bit epiphany+nspluginwrapper.
it seems much faster than the later 9.0.x (with x>48)

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

I'm curious to hear opinions of 32bit users. But I think I'll wait until it hits the repos, since I don't use much Flash at the moment.

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Well, that's useful enough for me. I am not tempted to upgrade, can't be bothered right now tongue

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Used it since yesterday, probably crashed Epiphany 5++ times already. It seems to perform slightly better than v9 (but it obviously still sucks big time).

if you only want to try it, you can put it in ~/.mozilla/plugins as well.

Does this version work with opera 9.0 or konqueror?

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

No problems so far, been running it under Firefox 2 since yesterday, seems a tad faster, no other real differences.

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Taking into account the last version that worked with Opera (9r48) was some time ago, is Opera supported in Flash 10?

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

after some days testiong, it feels definitely faster and less cpu intensive (laptop fan speeds up much fewer when browsing flash content). also, while I had frequent epiphany freezing previously (with sometimes ghostly 'npsomething.bin' windows and lots of leftover npstuff processes), I have not encountered a single one since using beta 10.

Can you open THIS SITE without problems? I often use it as "test bench"...

Demind: Looks fine for me, using FF3 RC1 by SpookyET.

General performance with Flash 10 seems to be increased and it feels overall great.

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

I'm trying to use the new plugin with nspluginwrapper (i'm on a x86_64 box) and when i try to open that site i obtain:

You have Flash installed, but you must have the most current version.

Other sites with flash work quite well but maybe the problem is the wrapper...i don't know, i'm going to downgrade...

I agree with you, that's what the user who uploaded this package has done.
Maybe we shouldn't talk about it here but in an other topic.
It's a very interesting thing to discuss smile

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Beta 10 works quite fine, but not perfect. Some site, as www.nba.com doesn't work at all sad Still, the performance is much better than version 9... let's hope it gets stable enough to everyday use

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

the reason it doesn't work is that those websites specifically want 9.0
you can edit pluginreg.dat in your firefox profile and change 10 to 9.0

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

as a developper this really makes me want to kick the crap out of them. it would have crapped out just as well with flash 9.1, or 9.01. this is just like the crap that locks you out because you use firefox 3 and they want firefox 2. I mean, people, come on, wtf!? do they have a special keyboard without a '>' key? or is it electrified in some sort?

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Usually the sites that hardcode flash player versions do a good job at tracking updates too. So when/if 9.1 is out, they immediately update their sites. As I understand, they do this to avoid older versions.

Re: flash plugin 10 beta is available

Ha, I just noticed that flashplugin beta works in Konqueror (i686) without any fiddling (wasn't so with 9 since that XEmbed stuff). A pleasant surprise.

Work's perfectly for me, with SpookyET's FF3 RC1 package. Noticeably faster than any flash I've used previously (winblows/mac).
