8800GT Users

Hey all, if any of you are using nVidia's 8800GT graphics card, can you please post the following information?

1. What's your card's specific model?
2. How much video memory does it have? What is its clock speed?
3. What Linux distribution are you using? (Hopefully you're using Arch Linux tongue)...
4. What driver version are you using?
5. What desktop environment/window manager are you using?
5. Do you get lag when resizing windows (with opaque resize on)?

Re: 8800GT Users

1) XFX 8800GT
2) 512MB DDR 3, under clocked to 800MHz from 900MHz because of serious stability issues. I may need to go down to 750MHz
3) Arch Linux, the Pimp Daddy, Flex Master Supreme of all Linux distros
4) 173.14.5
5) E17
6) No, but I have no idea what opaque resize is or does

Opaque window resizing - it's the "normal" way to resize windows. The content is shown when you resize. I put that in there so people don't confuse it with the wireframe resize. So do you notice lag when you resize windows? And can you please post your xorg.conf file? I'm having issues...

Wow! It's just like it reads. Go and figure.

No, I don't have any lag under normal resizing.

--EDIT--

When I said under clocked above, I was referring to the memory clock speed.

That's very strange. I have a LOT of lag. What CPU do you have? And can you please post your xorg.conf?

Re: 8800GT Users

I'm running an AMD 6400+ processor with 4GB of DDR2 RAM. The only strangeness I have sometimes is when I have a or kill a runaway process in Terminal. If that's happening, if I drag a window it won't redraw until I stop.

I'm not on my Linux box right now. I'll post my xorg.conf file later.

Thanks. I have an AMD 4400+. This lag shouldn't be happening at all for me. I'm going to try something else. If you could post that xorg.conf file, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: 8800GT Users

Update: This lag problem doesn't exist when I booted off the Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD...

Re: 8800GT Users

This is a very simple xorg.conf file; Probably too simple to help with your problem. nvidia-xconfig created it. I added the Composite, CoolBits, and DPI lines lines.

Re: 8800GT Users

I hear the problem has to do with the PowerMizer setting the performance too low, but I am unable to fix this.

Re: 8800GT Users

Hmm, skottish, are you sure you have NO LAG AT ALL when resizing your windows? So resizing is silky smooth for you?

Yes. After you asked I even tried another spastic attempt to "find" lag again and it's not there. I am running E17 though. It's a blazing fast WM.

Ok I'm going to try E17
