Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

firefoxdark.jpg

The buttons are now visible as I installed a widgets fix from the Ubuntu forums, but the text boxes are all way too dark and text is black. I can barely read what I'm typing right now, hehe. Anyone got a fix?

I've used the forms.css and html.css replacements from dark theme packs for a long time but they don't seem to work now. Have copied them all over to /opt/firefox3-bin/res/, same as before but no luck. I'm using FF 3 Beta 4.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Not sure about FF3 but in FF2 goto Edit>Preferences>Content>Colors and change the text color to something more visible, should be same or similar procedure for FF3.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

I'm working on a similar problem with ff3 at the moment. I have a theme which is setting the foreground but not the background corretcly. e.g. in this quick reply box I can't see what I'm typing because its white on white.
I'm thinking userContent.css, set the forms colours to be correct.
If I come up  with something I'll post
dabski: that option exists, but doesn't seem to set the forms or widgets
BTW, colbert what is your titlebar font (all caps)?

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

alex, It's HeldustryFTV Demi, I can upload it when I get home if you cannot find it (I was sent it by a friend).

Also, I was reading on a link from searching that FF3 now uses the GTK theme and doesn't use userChrome.css? Guess I will have to tamper with it and see to find out.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

userChrome.css is partly used e.g. to hide parts of the gui
but I was talking about userContent.css, which can still be used for overrides to change pages (as long as they contain !important)
this is how Stylish works, and does affect FF3.
Anyway, by changing GTK theme to a more recent/complete one, which can be edited for colour if you want, I now have white text on grey background in text entry forms/boxes and buttons with white text. It's one of the Murrina Dark Pack on gnome-look from you screenshot I guess you have murrine, so you could have a look. I have it looking basically the same as the old theme but with ff looking right.
also, couldn't find the font as just caps, could you upload it?

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Oops, yeah I mentioned the wrong file. I just changed my GTK theme back to a lighter one, it's fine now. Hopefully there's some sort of "official" fix or something that will work soon.

Here's the font smile

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

I found it was just a bit hit and miss between dark themes. It appears some may have code which others lack, making them work properly with ff
If your dark theme doesn't work, try a different one and you can change that into what you want. I found that the themes in Murrina Dark Pack and a colour-changed clearlooks all worked quite well and I just changed it to be what I wanted. I think the main problem is older themes. Since then I have changed to Elegant Brit, which works perfectly so I'm not particularly worried about this atm.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Yeah it's really theme-dependent, just gotta pick one that works. I'm fine using Fawn, love it and had used it for a while, but wanted to get back to a dark theme-- alas this prevents me. Just have to wait until the final build or something in another beta, I'm guessing.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Go under System > Preferences > Appearance and select that Gtk theme, then go under "Customize" and select the "Colors" tab. You can fine-tune the colors there -- I've had to do it myself for dark themes before. The part you're looking for is the input boxes.

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Whoa, I'm not sure what's happened, I just tried to edit my theme (Mire Grey) and changed the base[NORMAL] to brighter, which lightened up the input fields, but the text was quite white so it was invisible still, but I quickly realized the text is now white? So I changed it right back to the default, and now the dark fields are still dark but all text is white. I can actually see what I'm typing here with a dark theme and FF3 B4! big_smile

Re: Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

Any update on this?
setting base[NORMAL] gets the  input fields to the chosen color, but when I select them, they turn to black: #000000, (with black text) unreadable sad

EDIT: solved for me! Deleting userContent.css from both /opt/firefox3-bin/.../chrome and ~/.mozilla/.../chrome resulted in text colour equal to theme text (which is green), on black field.
