USB Mouse freeze

Hello!

I installed Arch two days ago. The mouse keeps freezing on me though. I have a usb keyboard too but that keeps working after the mouse freezes. I've tried unplugging/replugging it but it doesn't help. I managed to freeze it twice when I started amsn. Other than that, they seem completely random. I had the same issues with Ubuntu.

dmesg

it does have it. Maybe a problem with the mirror you are using?

Sorry I meant your input driver (xf86-input-evdev or xf86-input-mouse ?)

The pidgin package seems to be on the mirror for both i686 and x86_64 (in the [extra] repo).

Erm, I dunno, I'd guess input-mouse. I have no idea what evdev is. Do I need to do something with pacman to get all the packages at the mirror? all I've really done so far is pacman -Sy or -Su whatever updates it.

evdev is a generic input driver (you can use it for both your mouse and keyboard). If you do not know what the evdev driver is, you most likely are using the xf86-input-mouse driver.

To be sure you can use a

pacman -Q | grep xf86-input

from the command line and see which one comes up. Try switching to the other (you need to install it first of course). This gentoo wiki page may help you a bit how to configure your xorg.conf for an evdev driver: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Advanced_M … d_USB_Mice (note that you do not need most parts that are written there)

Does this solve your problem? If not, try using the vesa video driver temporarily to see if the problem is with your video card driver.

No normally that should work. You don't get any results when doing

pacman -Ss pidgin

If so try to use another mirror and see if that helps.

Re: USB Mouse freeze

Sorry I took so long to reply but I've been busy with finals.

evdev didn't work either. Last time it froze something must have happened to the nvidia driver. Now it just freezes at the nvidia logo and I have to reboot it manually. The Xlog doesn't say anything it just stops as it is loading the nvidia driver. I'll run nv for a while and see if it still hangs the mouse.

I still can't find pigdin though, I tried the official repo but no go.

Re: USB Mouse freeze

the program name is pi D G in, maybe you typed it incorrectly
by the way, pidgin is in the [extra] repo

pacman -S pidgin

i'm sure it has to be there,
otherwise try another mirror or make sure you didn't accidentally comment it out in /etc/pacman.conf
