Here's the thing. I am using HAL and thunar, but CD/DVD won't show up when inserted. And the wierd part is - USB sticks work flawlessly. The only way to have the CD appearing in Thunar is restart the PC. Yes, it mounts nicely on boot.
Here's the /etc/fstab:
#/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom iso9660,udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
#/dev/dvd /media/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/sda2 /home ext3 defaults 0 1
/etc/group (the essential ones)
optical::93:hal,hide
storage:x:95:hal,hide
dbus:x:81:
hal:x:82:
and /etc/rc.conf (DAEMONS):
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa fam hal slim)
I tried commenting/uncommenting drives in fstab, adding/removing user from hal and dbus groups, but nothing helps.
update:
CD-s are mounted without problems, but DVD-s still remain a mystery.

Have you tried using thunars volume manager?

I just did, no change there.
Is this a bug which should be submitted?

Not sure I used to have a similar problem though I can not remember how I fixed it. I now use ivman. You could try one of these methods:http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL

Another update:
Some DVD-s now work, but some don't. Humorously enough, one's that don't are mounted fine when done via console.
