Arch Linux Torrents - Need Seeders
About a week ago, I bought the domain www.LinuxTorrents.org and put torrenttrader on it. First thing I uploaded to it was of course the ArchLinux torrents. Still needs seeders....... if anyone is interested in helping out
Notice on the right what it's running on ........ (64 bit Arch Linux)

maybe it would help in general if a login wasnt needed just to browse torrents etc.
There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

I don't think a login should be needed at all as most people will just grab one distro and go. That being said I'm signing up right now and putting some arch torrents on my torrent box.

seeding with vserver (~4MiB/s)
lol downloading both i686 and x86_64 core isos took about 1 minute
edit: no debian torrents?
edit2: also seeding arch-ftp-install-2008.04-rc-{i686|x86_64}.iso
edit3: maybe you should mention that the registration process only takes 5 seconds (on the main page) so nobody gets scared
do you have a mailing list or something where you announce files that need seeders? my vserver has 500GB free traffic/month and about 98% of that is unused
edit4: is it possible to provide a direct link to the .torrents? wget doesnt like php-downloads

rob, if you look on the main page on the left, there's a link that says which torrents really need seeders. you can also go to browse torrents and order by number of seeders.

yeah but it'd be more convenient to receive email than to check the page every now and then

You should try and get rid of the login for just browsing and downloading torrents. I would rather just download it somewhere else than sign up for yet another site.

Or what about the official torrents? Granted there are no torrents for 2008.04-rc, but there are torrents for ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso/2008.03/i686/

You may want to set up some kind of CAPTCHA system for the email, because you're going to get a SPAM storm of false registrations.

I second that, why bother with signing up if I can download it from for example archlinux.org without an account.

I honestly didn't see those...... I just looked at the http://www.archlinux.org/download/ page, and used those torrents.... I will remedy that later tonight though Thanks.
I will also look into allowing visitors to browse and download without registering........ I think I had had an issue where if I allowed anonymous use, it for some reason allowed anyone to upload.......which was definitely NOT a good idea. I'll look into it again though.

why are so many ppl complaining about signing up? I can, literally, sign up a new account in 20 seconds. 20 seconds! It would TAKE you that long to go to another site =P. stop being so damn lazy

Considering that the site is meant, as far as I can tell, as a help for lazy people to find iso torrents, it's kind of silly to expect that said lazy user wouldn't be too lazy to sign up. That's 20 seconds I could've just as well spent on looking up the distros site for the official torrent, rendering the entire purpose of the site void.
Personally, I find the site useless as long as it demands me to sign up for no apparent reason.
Offline
It would allow you to find the official torrents of most major distro's ............. saving you a bit of google time I suppose, it also allows you to make comments etc to the different sections of the site and if able, to upload torrents as well. It actually DOES serve a purpose... whether you understand the reason or not.
Offline
yeah, the whole website's purpose is not just to save you ten seconds of google time, lol.

Look, all I am saying is that this is web 2.0 done wrong, where it is assumed that the user is going to contribute content and forced to sign up for yet another site and somehow manage yet another password, or possibly the reuse yet another password that will lead to yet another attack vector for a security compromise. And for what? A linux iso that I could find just as easily on their official site or any other linux iso torrent site.
So right now, the site is broken from a usability standpoint.

wow, someone's paranoid

You say it like it's a bad thing.
Speaking of paranoia, is there some mechanism that makes it easy for the user to validate the checksum of the isos?

That's YOUR opinion, and your entitled to it....... I am looking into allowing unregistered viewers to access content, but in all honesty, I'm not sure it's really to much to ask to have people sign up. There is no email verification required or anything that will cause you much trouble. Most torrent sites DO ask you to sign up
