Hi, I usually don't watch movies, but I've been trying to watch one lately (Big Buck Bunny) and it's very very choppy, both sounds and images.
Here is the relevant section from my xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
VendorName "All"
BoardName "All"
Option "AccelMethod" "exa" # with "xaa" it's the same
Option "DRI" "true"
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
EndSection
Does anyone else experience this?
My Window Manager is wmii, and I'm not using any composite tool (like xcompmgr, for example).
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

Try this:
Section "Device"
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" #this one is for use with the EXA AccelMethod only
Section "Extensions"
Option "RENDER" "Enable"

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

RENDER is enabled by default.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't change much...

Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
VendorName "All"
BoardName "All"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
EndSection

> glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: Yes
However, what is the difference between your method and moljac024?
Thanks

Ah, sorry it's me. I couldn't see the difference because I already have that entry.

Thanks, I'm using xv and nothing is choppy anymore, but audio and video are out of sync now...

Are you playing the H.264 1280x768 one? Some scenes (fast movement) are lagging on my side. I'd assume hardware limitation.
I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

I will definitely try another WM, but I'm quite convinced by schivmeister, since I have downloaded the 1920x1080 one. I guess I was too ambitious

You haven't mentioned that little detail

Yeah, now I know that such details matter as well... I guess now you all know I am a complete beginner when it comes to video stuff.

Heh, 1080p Big Buck Bunny lags like hell on my PC (P4 Northwood 2.8GHz), but 720p runs fine

I had the same problem a while back with a copy of Blade Runner, the 945GMs are not so good at the 1080p. I had to do a LOT before it would even playback 30 seconds without skipping.
But as soon as I played it on a computer with a decent graphics card. All those problems cleared up.

Have you tried enabling INTEL_BATCH? Just out of curiousity...

A hack that apparently increases performance. And, it actually does - really.
echo "export INTEL_BATCH=1" >> ~/.bashrc
For glxgears, you get a big jump from around 700-900FPS to 1400 - 1600. Of course, maximise it to get a real-world value. In games like ET and UbT, I get at least 3-5FPS more with the amount of details and reso I prefer, which makes things more playable.
I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

Thanks schivmeister, I have tried it and it already feels faster, even though I haven't played any video yes, but the general performance seems indeed improved
