I'm messing around with jackd, and it and rlimits are giving me an extremely hard time. /etc/pam.d/gdm is set up right, so I know that the stuff in /etc/security/limits.conf should be obeyed:
@audio - rtprio 90
@audio - nice -5
@audio - memlock 500000
but whenever I try to run an application using jackd in realtime-as-user mode, it tells me that it can't lock down the memory for realtime.
Furthermore, jackd as user - even *without* realtime - gives me nonstop xrun messages ("of at least 1212617444032.512 msecs", which I find hard to believe) and makes my sound stutter horribly. As root, this doesn't happen, but running jackd as root is not secure and I would rather not do it.
I filed a bug on the rlimits thing a while ago, the devs are too busy to bother with it... can someone please tell me what the heck is going on?
