Frequency scaling not working with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 on 2.6.25

Hello all. I have been using Arch for a couple of months now and I find it excellent!

A couple of days ago I was forced to buy a new PC due to my old laptop dying. So I went for a desktop equipped with a Core 2 Quad Q6600. The problem I'm facing though, is that frequency scaling is not working.

The problem is with the module; when modproped, acpi_cpufreq returns

FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.25-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device

The cpufreq_ondemand module has no problems though.

The above issue results with the processors running constantly at full speed @2.4GHz which is far from optimum. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest something about this problem.

I have the same processor and I didn't have this trouble.  Try removing and reinstalling cpufrequtils and see if that gets you anywhere.

Thanks for the reply. Before I try your suggestion, because I'm not on my PC right now, may I ask you if you are you using the 64bit edition?
