Could you go http://metalreviews.com/ in Firefox3 from unstable?
I asked people on irc but they had no problems with it, I don't know why I have, maybe because Radeon card?
Go to the website and then click on "New Weekly reviews".
Problems:
- everything works terrible slow
- there are visible errors, for instance firefox menu is visible in the website
I had no problems with it on Firefox2 and lots of other websites work OK.

For what it's worth, it's working fine here, with an Intel card.
Did you try to rename or delete your .mozilla folder in your home?

I've tried on my desktop machine with a radeon card (radeon 9600), and I have none of the problems you are mentioning either. My laptop with an onboard intel gfx chip (945GM) doesn't show this either, it all looks as it should.

Babypuncher I realized now that I have this shit on many websites, have you managed to fix it? What's your hardware and software configuration?
I use xfce4, Radeon 9800 Pro with radeon driver, 1280x1024 on LCD.

Can't help you with your problem, just wanted to say that's a nice website that I didn't know about. Thanks for the link

Yeah, firefox 3 is terrible with background images, in fact, I added a user style to turn them all off.
I added this to my userContent.css
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url-prefix(http) {
body, html {
background-image: none !important;
}
}

Same problem here, firefox-spookyet and VIA driver. Firefox 3.0b5 works fine.

So what's exactly is the difference between systems with that problem and without it?

I have something similar with latest firefox 3 and epiphany 2.22.2 from the official repos.
The background of the white information boxes around the content at http://last.fm/ are screwed

Damn, then it's even more obscure ;D
I've got almost every CSS image background screwed with the latest gecko.
I've tried removing .mozilla, running ff as totally new user and even recompiling xulrunner. Nothing works.

Yay, I fixed my problems with this.
